Dr. Martine J. Jager is head of the Laboratory of Ophthalmology at Leiden University, The Netherlands.

Her research interests are immunology and development of uveal melanoma and ocular surface diseases. She received her PhD in immunology from Leiden University, did her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Amsterdam, and a clinical fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. She is a frequent visitor at the Schepens Eye Research institute, Boston, where she holds a position as adjunct scientist. She mentors medical and PhD students, in the Netherlands as well as abroad.

Dr. Jager is Board member of the International Society of Ocular Oncology (ISOO), and of the European Association for vision and Eye Research (EVER), past-President of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and member of the Advisory Board of the International Council of Ophthalmology. As past-president of ARVO, she is active in developing ARVO Chapters to stimulate eye research world-wide. She participates as reviewer and member of the Editorial Board in several ophthalmological journals, including Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science.
